Scalable solution enables affordable solution upgrade, expanding capacity for customers

Lod, Israel – November 10, 2015 – Telrad Networks, a global provider of TD- LTE broadband solutions, today announced the completion of the first phase of a 4G rollout by wireless operator, Multitel. After a successful Telrad field trial in 2013, Multitel rolled out a major project with Telrad to upgrade its existing equipment infrastructure across the majority of its coverage area.

The first phase of the project involved the deployment of Telrad’s end-to-end 4G solution, starting in Angola’s capital city, Luanda. As one of the first operators in Africa to deploy Telrad’s 4G solution for a commercial broadband network, Multitel’s key goal was to increase capacity, for a growing base of corporate and small office/home office (SOHO) end users.

To keep the project within its capital and operating budgets, Multitel leveraged Telrad’s unique Software Defined Radio (SDR) equipment, enabling the use of existing infrastructure and a software-only upgrade to the new platform. The upgrade can then be done seamlessly with no service interruptions. The SDR strategy enabled the operator to meet growing demand for bandwidth, while maximizing coverage and capacity across its 3.5 GHz network.

“As one of the largest operators in Angola, we have a responsibility to deliver superior broadband experiences to all of our customers. They are seeking faster Internet services and better bandwidth, and we’re now better equipped to deliver that,” said António Geirinhas, CEO of Multitel. “Thanks to Telrad, we’re in the position to exceed this year’s growth goals. In the meantime, we’ve started to build a world-class network that has us poised to meet current and future demands.”

The next round of the project includes new sites targeted for deployment with Telrad’s infrastructure. Multitel will continue to expand beyond the capital city of Luanda, offering triple-play services and supporting high-capacity applications.

Telrad’s CEO, Ran Bukshpan, said, “Africa continues to be a key target area for the company. With this project, we’re proud to have a viable solution to help our customers make a seamless network upgrade without interruptions. We look forward to working closely with Multitel as they continue to expand their network and are fully committed to help make their next phase of this project a tremendous success.”
