Telrad’s solution addresses NLOS issues, increasing capacity and coverage for growing customer base
Lod, Israel – October 14, 2015 — Telrad Networks, a global provider of TD-LTE broadband solutions, today announced that Silo Wireless is upgrading its network with a combination of Telrad LTE solutions designed to better serve its business and residential subscribers in Southwest Ontario. Under the $1.2 million agreement, Silo will roll out Telrad’s BreezeCOMPACT 3000 solution in the 2.3 GHz licensed WCS band, followed by an upgrade of Silo’s 3.65 GHz platform over several months to a variety of Telrad equipment.
Silo’s customers are mainly located in heavily treed terrain, requiring a solution that ensures the signal can penetrate foliage, while keeping high capacity and performance. The BreezeCOMPACT 3000 operates at higher power levels, offering advanced antenna features which help to overcome challenging NLOS issues that had been resulting in expensive service calls and reduced revenues.
“Like most rural WISPS, we started out eight years ago with a simple vision: to provide reliable Internet to our local community. Telrad is helping us continue to deliver on this vision,” said Andreas Wiatkowski, President of Silo Wireless. “I was comfortable ‘flipping to LTE’, with a company like Telrad, which has a mature product and experienced team.”
Since 2007, Silo has become one of the largest fixed wireless providers in the region, currently serving over 6,000 subscribers, with continuous rapid growth. The focus of the network upgrade is to provide Silo with reliability, scalability and spectral efficiency to enhance services to existing customers. Telrad’s solutions offer a Software-Defined Radio platform that enables them to scale their growth over time without costly hardware upgrades, and take advantage of LTE’s expanding capabilities.
The BreezeCOMPACT 3000 is currently certified with Industry Canada (IC) in bands 40 (2.3 GHz WCS) and 41 (2.5 GHz). A version supporting 3.47-3.7 GHz will soon be available, allowing higher power deployments in the 3.5 GHz licensed band, and in 3.65-3.7 GHz where permitted by IC. Another key component of Telrad’s LTE solution is the Telrad BreezeWAY 2020 EPC, selected by Silo to replace a managed service EPC that was previously deployed. The EPC 2020 provides features that are relevant for fixed wireless operators, a reasonably priced entry point, immense scalability and end-to-end management.
“As a company, Telrad has been focused on continually rolling out high-performance products that address key customer requirements from WISPS like Silo,” said Chris Daniels, General Manager of North America for Telrad. “Our LTE solution and its NLOS capabilities have been a ‘missing link’ for rural providers in particular. Silo can now provide their customers with a premium broadband connection that is cost-effective and highly competitive.”
