Telrad Enables FASTNET to Migrate from WiMAX to LTE-U

South Sudanese broadband ISP deploys cost-effective Telrad solutions for future-proof performance

[LOD, Israel – June 17, 2021] Telrad Networks, a global provider of innovative wireless telecommunication solutions, has been enlisted by Fast Network Limited (FASTNET), an Internet service provider based in South Sudan, Africa, to provide the key technologies for migrating the ISP’s WiMAX infrastructure to unlicensed LTE (LTE-U).

The upgrade will augment and replace FASTNET’s existing 2.x GHz band network with a modern 5 GHz LTE-U network. The move comes as many ISPs around the world relinquish licensed bands within the WiMAX spectrum either because of increasing costs or because state regulators are auctioning the bands off for 5G services.

“As forward-thinking ISPs like FASTNET look to future-proof their infrastructure and transition their customers seamlessly to next-generation LTE-U networks, they are turning to Telrad’s advanced range of wireless broadband solutions in order to achieve better coverage and outstanding performance at a price that aligns with their budget,” said Telrad Vice President of Worldwide Sales Ilan Menachem.

“By leveraging the advantages of our proven end-to-end solutions, FASTNET is joining the growing number of Telrad customers who have worked with us to identify a practical, cost-effective path for upgrading their existing WiMAX network to LTE without disruption and at their own pace.”

FASTNET chose to deploy Telrad’s BreezeCOMPACT1000 LTE-U dual-mode base stations in conjunction with the 12000U series of Telrad CPEs. The combination of these award-winning, high-capacity broadband base stations and flexible, rugged CPEs will allow FASTNET to transition its WiMAX customers to faster and more reliable service in the unlicensed LTE band—even in challenging non-line-of-sight (NLOS) scenarios.

Wais Huda, Managing Director at FASTNET, said that the company was drawn to Telrad because of its excellent reputation in the industry for providing high-quality products and after-sales service.

“Thanks to Telrad’s robust unlicensed LTE solutions and their unique features such as Layer 2 enterprise networking, we have been able to provide our customers with the same set of broadband services and coverage while also delivering better performance than our existing 2.x GHz band network. We also anticipate that Telrad’s highly optimized, user-friendly equipment and dedicated support will solve the ongoing installation, configuration and maintenance challenges we faced with our WiMAX network, which will yield additional OpEx benefits in the long term,” he said.

“Based on our experience, I can highly recommend Telrad’s wireless broadband solutions. Their products are the most reliable and cost-effective of any that we researched, and they will enable FASTNET to continue meeting our customers’ expectations of top-tier service.”
